“It’s the business of letting go that puts everyone on the same plane of suffering, silencing all ramblings about one pain being bigger than the other pain. Letting go has never been an easy one, it’s always dovetailed with a whole gamut of emotions that seem to wrench your heart out. How do you get past the vagueness of a lover’s look that gazed upon you once with love and longing? How do you casually say goodbye to colleagues…who have grown to be friends through the years? I once read that letting go makes living a whole lot easier. Like a traveller on the road, the unnecessary bits are left behind and the basic essentials retained for survival. Thus I steel myself against the throbbing and arm myself with the wonderful memories…as I push on…to the next chapter of my life”
– Liana Garcellano-
Chanced across this paragraph and almost felt that it was written for me. And it is true, the pain lies in being attached, being unwilling to let go.
How do you get past letting a loved one whom you speak to regularly end the day with nary a call? How do you get past letting someone whom you speak to every night over msn log off without exchanging a single word? How do you nonchalantly bid farewell to more than 100 people whom you cared about?
Pain…will go away. The more it hurts, the more you fear, the more you mustn’t flinch. Gradually, the pain will ebb and you will become stronger. Years down the road, when you look back at your life, you might or might not be grateful for the experiences but at least there will be no regrets as you’ve known and faced the ‘what-ifs’ in life.
Beautiful song by Corrine May- Fly Away. I want to, need to, acquire that spirit.
